Colfax County to install fence at La Mesa airfield under cooperative NMDOT agreement

Colfax County approved a cooperative-fencing agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation for the La Mesa Park Airfield (old airport). Under the agreement, NMDOT will fund materials while the county will provide labor. Staff reported they received three quotes for labor and will set up a purchase order once the agreement is approved; the lowest quoted labor price was $4,100.
Commissioners discussed adding language to the agreement making users responsible for damage to the fence and noted the county has increased the deposit fee for using the area. One commissioner said the fencing should clean up the area and improve its usefulness for events such as the Balloon Fiesta. The motion to approve the cooperative fencing agreement carried on roll call with unanimous support.
Staff will proceed with purchase orders and scheduling for installation once intergovernmental paperwork is finalized.
