The Colfax County Commission authorized execution of the construction agreement with Max Drilling Inc. for the Miami fire-station fill system, contingent on verification that the contractor has provided an appropriate performance and payment bond.
Staff reported that the contract was awarded by the commission in February and that Max Drilling has submitted the required documents, including bonds submitted yesterday. The reported award amount is $287,179; staff estimated the current gross receipts tax would put the contract at about $303,854 "plus some change." Long-lead items for the project—particularly the tanks—mean the contractor expects roughly three months before on-site work begins.
Commissioners questioned whether the bond amount covers the full contract value. Staff said the initially submitted bond was not proper; the contractor submitted a corrected performance and payment bond yesterday and staff will verify the bond. The motion approved the contract with authority for the chairman to sign after staff confirms the bond is correct.
No formal protest or objection was recorded during the roll call; the motion passed with Commissioners Kern, Trujillo and Chairman Tatum voting yes.
The county manager said staff will follow up immediately to confirm the bond and allow the chairman to execute the agreement once verified.
