Upson County highlights 4‑H achievements as Georgia Ag Week ends

Haley Partain, who led the county’s presentation on 4‑H activities, told the Board of Commissioners on March 24 that Upson County fielded junior and senior Dairy Quiz Bowl teams and sent students to district and state competitions.
The presentation, delivered during Georgia Ag Week, highlighted that “it was our first time Upson County has had a team in at least over 30 years,” Partain said. She described student participation across events — Dairy Quiz Bowl, district public‑speaking contests, livestock shows for cattle, sheep and pigs, and junior/senior District Project Achievement portfolios at Rock Eagle — and showed photos of participants and medal winners.
County staff and commissioners praised the extension office staff and AmeriCorps additions. “We have a lot of positive things happening in Upson County,” the county manager said, commending Miss Ashley, Miss Kiki, Miss Donna and the extension team for outreach and low‑cost youth programming.
Commissioner Jones noted the program’s growth since Partain took leadership, and the board joined staff in taking a group photograph with the students. The recognition segment concluded with commissioners encouraging public support and participation in upcoming youth sports and extension events.
The board did not take formal action on 4‑H matters; the presentation was informational. The county manager and extension staff noted upcoming activities including poultry judging and youth sports seasons.
