Schley County officials on March 10 decided to cancel previously filed default judgments for delinquent garbage (and water) accounts and to submit a new round of paperwork reflecting current balances and fees. The county’s administration proposed two options after learning default judgments were not issued as expected: cancel the old judgments and refile updated paperwork (recommended), or issue default judgments and new judgments for balances that have since accrued. The board voted to cancel the old judgments and refile.
The administration asked for discretion to write off trash accounts deemed uncollectable; the board granted that authority in the motion. Chairman Clark asked staff to consult with the Tax Commissioner about including delinquent trash balances on property tax bills, and the item will be revisited at the next regular meeting.
