Animal shelter nears completion; committee approves appliance purchase

The Capital Outlay Committee on May 7 heard that construction of the county animal shelter is nearing handover after staff completed the architectural and civil punch lists and scheduled final inspections.
"Everything's looking really good," a county staff member responsible for the project said, adding that construction quality has been "really good" overall but that lead times for the final ceiling tile and acoustic panels remain an outstanding issue.
The staff member said a final electrical inspection was expected to be completed the following day and that testing and balancing were planned for the week after that. He also reported that data wiring has been routed and the network rack has been mounted; remaining work includes terminating cabling inside the mechanical room and pulling a highway feed.
The committee discussed site grading and ponding and agreed staff would work with the county engineer and on-site supervisors to address drainage where neighboring wetlands currently flow through the site.
Separately, the committee approved a motion to buy appliances using a Home Depot quote. The exact dollar figure in the audio record was imprecise; the Chair described the amount in the meeting as "somewhere around $38.69" and staff described a $100 discount on the selected package. The motion to approve the purchase was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The Chair said Budget & Finance may need to review the purchase at its next meeting, and staff will follow up on remaining punch-list items before formal turnover to operations.
