Sandusky recreation staff told the board that contractors are ahead of schedule on the Mills Creek Golf Course renovation and that targeted grading should resolve a persistently wet low spot on hole three.
"We asked them to bring that up about a foot so it could drain better to the creek," Jason said, describing the work alongside plans to pull and reset sprinkler heads and to let seeded areas establish before play resumes in April. He said the area adjacent to cemetery and wetlands had historically been low and that the project also addresses erosion and a redirected creek channel near the green.
Board members discussed carts and fleet management. Jason said the city currently has a 12‑cart lease that expires at season’s end and a total fleet of roughly 36 carts. The board is exploring leasing the entire fleet or pursuing a buyout option so fleet maintenance is covered by the lessor and costs are more predictable going forward.
Jason said crews will limit seeded areas from play until grass establishes and that further low spots outside the raised area will be addressed in the next season. No formal procurement decision or lease award was made during this meeting; staff will return with cost options.
"They're ahead of schedule out there," Jason said. "We want to make sure any of the sprinkler heads that were underneath there that we get those pulled up in time and in time for the season start."
