Jason reported that Farwell Park’s playground equipment is scheduled for installation later this month and that a smaller Central Park playground will be replaced later this summer; sidewalks and other concrete work will follow, with a subsequent update from staff at the next meeting. He also said the red popcorn wagon will return next week as a seasonal activity that signals the start of spring programming.
The board discussed court surface and parking work: staff are putting additional stone in the rec‑center parking area to reduce washout, and once that is in place the Moby mobility mats — provided through a grant from the Erie County Board of DD — will be reinstalled to limit dirt tracked onto courts. Jason said coaches and users will be asked to use the adjacent Firelands lot when parking at the rec center area is full and that signage will be added to discourage parking on Rockwell Street.
On the waterfront, the board supported a local bid advertisement for replacing docks rather than using the Sourcewell cooperative contract used last year. A resident noted the city will relocate last year’s docks to serve as courtesy docks and install new docks at the boat ramp; the speaker said the change should help local contractors bid and that better docks support overnight visitors who contribute to the local economy.
Board members also said the pickleball court remains open while crews add additional surface work, and staff will provide further scheduling and signage updates as projects progress.
The board did not take formal votes on capital funding in this meeting; most items were status updates and planning steps. The board adjourned after routine announcements.
"Once the stone's in for the parking, we'll put the Moby mats back out again," Jason said. "That will help reduce the dirt tracked on the courts."
