Commissioners authorize application for new opioid‑settlement tranche labeled 'Six Remnant'

On March 11 the Norfolk County Commissioners voted to authorize County Director John Cronin to apply for the county's allocation from a newly settled defendant in the national opioid litigation referred to in the packet as the "Six Remnant" settlement.
Director Cronin briefed the board that the national opioid settlement program distributes funds through states on a multi‑year schedule and that Norfolk County has previously passed awards through to local institutions addressing opioid‑related needs. "I would request a motion to allow the director to apply ... for this particular settlement known as the Six Remnant defendant settlement," Cronin said; commissioners moved, seconded and approved the authorization.
Cronin said the county does not yet know Norfolk County's tranche amount; he will notify the board when the state confirms the allocation and staff will integrate any new funds into the county's annual award process for local organizations that provide opioid recovery services.
