Schley County Commissioners Excluded from This Year’s Safety Incentive Payments

Schley County commissioners voted Nov. 13 to exclude elected commissioners from the county’s annual safety incentive payments while leaving employee payment levels unchanged.
County Manager Douglas Jamieson reviewed the county’s safety incentive practice—historically $500 for full‑time employees and $250 for part‑time employees, with some exceptions and past discretion by department leaders. Commissioners discussed whether elected officials should receive the incentive; Chairman Clark said the commissioners are not full‑time and Commissioner Barrineau moved to exclude county commissioners from the incentive pool this year. Commissioner Jones seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Jamieson said checks have in prior years been “plussed up” so employees do not pay FICA on the incentives. The board did not change the dollar amounts for eligible employees at the meeting.
