Schley County commissioners approve Parrot UAV purchase, reverse IT vendor change and greenlight courthouse repairs bidding

The Schley County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 16 approved a package of administrative actions including the purchase of a Parrot Anafi unmanned aerial vehicle and the reversal of an earlier decision to switch county IT vendors.
Chairman Clark and county staff reported the Parrot Anafi will be purchased with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds and will be made available to Schley County Fire/EMS and the Schley County Sheriff’s Office. Commissioner Harrison moved to approve the purchase; Commissioner Jones seconded and the motion carried.
After receiving feedback from staff and residents, commissioners voted to revoke a previous motion to move the county IT contract from Alterra to NEOS and to retain Alterra instead. Commissioner Harrison moved to rescind the NEOS motion; Commissioner Belcher seconded and the board approved the reversal.
The board also addressed water damage at the Old Courthouse front entrance. County manager Douglas Jamieson presented a Kirkland Builders quote and the board agreed to advertise for bids and to permit commissioners to review and vote on bids by email so repairs can proceed before the next meeting. Commissioners confirmed SPLOST funds may be used for the project.
Other routine actions approved included the meeting agenda and multiple sets of minutes, appointment of Commissioner Jones as the county’s ACCG voting delegate for the Oct. 9 Legislative Leadership Conference at Jekyll Island, and a LVAP payment to SOWEGA CASA. The board approved a memorandum of agreement with the county health department to provide volunteer firefighters’ physicals at $52 per person, which Jamieson said the county is required to provide.
The meeting closed after reports from fire/EMS and public works and a scheduled working session was set for Oct. 14 to discuss plans for the county manager position following Jamieson’s stated retirement.
