Representatives of two local organizations asked the Schley County Board of Commissioners for support on May 13.
Randy Powell, speaking for the American Legion, requested county support for the annual Fourth of July fireworks show. Commissioner Barineau moved to contribute $3,500 to the American Legion; Vice Chairman Belcher seconded the motion and "all were in favor," according to the minutes.
Donna Franklin of Deep South Canine Rescue provided an update on rescue cases and asked the county to donate in connection with the group's 4th annual Deep South Bike Ride. Commissioner Harrison moved to provide a $500 donation and Commissioner Jones seconded the motion; a citizen additionally contributed $50 at the meeting and urged others to match the gift. The minutes record the motion but do not explicitly state whether the board voted on or approved the $500 donation.
Chairman Clark also said he would like the county to consider making quarterly donations to the rescue organization going forward. The board recorded the American Legion contribution as approved and the Deep South Canine Rescue request as a motion in the minutes without a recorded outcome.
