A Schley County resident told commissioners that a pond on Frank Roberts Road dropped in level after a pipe sank on March 31, and he urged the county to repair the problem.
Kyle Snider said he had alerted county officials in March 2024 about a prior washout and that recent ground movement had caused a pipe to sink, lowering the pond water level. He said he contacted the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) after the county removed a beaver dam to protect the road and that he had considered further reporting. Jamieson told the board engineers had suggested installing pipes that could eliminate the pond entirely.
Commissioner Harrison noted the existing pipe has been in place for 31 years and said replacing the pipe might be necessary if the county alters the system. Commissioner Barineau said he believed the county should restore the pond. Chairman Clark asked Road Superintendent Art Barfield and County Manager Douglas Jamieson to come up with a plan for the site.
No specific timeline or funding source was set at the meeting; Jamieson said the county had discussed the matter with engineers and that any long‑term fix would be developed with their input.
