Council adopts DHS use‑of‑force transparency resolution, opposes ICE staffing at Logan; gas‑tax suspension fails

Separately the council voted in favor of a resolution demanding that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement not be assigned to perform TSA duties at Boston Logan Airport. Sponsors said ICE presence at checkpoints would deter travel and instill fear in immigrant communities; the floor roll call recorded the measure as adopted with a majority and a single recorded negative vote.
Councilor Culpeper also offered a nonbinding resolution urging the state to suspend the gas tax to provide short-term relief for families facing higher pump prices. Several councilors opposed the measure on fiscal and environmental grounds: Councilor Durkan and others said the gas tax funds roads, bridges and transit capital and that suspension would risk critical revenues. The gas-tax resolution failed on a recorded vote (4 yes, 8 no, 1 present). Supporters framed the proposal as immediate relief for working families.
What’s next: The DHS transparency resolution is a formal municipal expression urging federal action. The Logan/ICE resolution directs a local political message to federal authorities. The gas-tax proposal failed and will not be forwarded for further action by the council.
