The Select Board unanimously approved a one-year private-pay rate increase for Nantucket’s Island Home nursing facility, responding to an administrator’s request that the town give 60‑day notice under the facility’s admission agreements.
Bob Eisenstein, Island Home administrator, presented an equitable schedule to move toward an $800 average per bed associated with the planned new facility. The board approved the first step: semiprivate rates will increase from $600 to $645 and private rates from $620 to $665 effective July 1, 2026; letters to residents and families will be sent in accordance with the facility’s 60‑day notice requirement.
Eisenstein said the proposal reflects the facility’s status as a licensed skilled‑nursing facility providing 24/7 nursing care, therapy services, on‑site physicians and that costs are higher for an island facility (supply and staffing costs). He described a multi‑year schedule of increases (roughly 7% per year) that would continue until rates approach the $800 target in 2029 when the new building is expected to open. The board voted to approve just the first‑year increase tonight; members indicated they could revisit escalation in future budgets.
