Staff reports: sidewalk projects, brief Highway 6 shutdown planned, and Texas Birthday Bash reschedule

Staff provided a suite of operational updates on March 9 covering capital-improvement projects, a planned traffic control operation, and community events.
Matthew Julian, project superintendent, said GLS will handle design and construction of a permanent sidewalk on the south side of the pedestrian bridge for the Rosik Street project. The West Washington (Techtop) sidewalk remains on hold while staff coordinates access with the railroad; contractors await railroad scheduling. The Mini Street TDA grant contract has been issued to the contractor and is under legal review, with a probable late-March or early-April start once documents are returned.
On the FM 390 sidewalk project, staff reported receipt of 90% plans and that some sections may require easements to meet ADA standards; development services is working with homeowners to resolve those needs.
Chief Mai (police) announced MidSouth will lower overhead power lines along Highway 6 the following evening and the city will assist with traffic control. He said closures will be between 7 and 10 p.m., with single closures expected to last about 15–20 minutes while crews lower and pull lines out of the roadway.
Taylor Hughes, marketing communications director, said the Texas Birthday Bash (postponed for weather) is tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, April 19, from noon to 8 p.m.; organizers are finalizing entertainment and expect to make an announcement soon.
City Secretary Susie also noted 13 applicants were selected for the Citizens University program, which begins March 23 and runs through May 18.
