Baldwin Park’s City Council approved most items on the consent calendar March 18 and heard several public comments on transit, library services and street-vending enforcement.
After pulling item 4 earlier in the meeting, the council approved the remaining consent items. The clerk recorded that items 1–3, 6–9 and 11–16 passed; item 17 passed with Mayor Daniel Damian recorded as abstaining due to a potential conflict.
Council also approved a police-related expenditure of $60,244 funded from the federal asset-forfeiture account. Captain Hendricks told the council the federal asset-forfeiture fund balance was "just over $180,000" before that expenditure; the council approved the item 5-0.
During public communications, resident Cindy Rubio thanked staff for organizing a transit and dial-a-ride meeting and praised officers who attended East Side Little League opening day. Irma Morales of the LA County Library described expanded cooling-center hours, an online Spanish preliteracy program (Leamos), tech-training dates and a readers-theatre event for March 28. Resident John Rios urged stricter enforcement of health and safety requirements for street vendors, saying inspectors should not rely on informal approvals.
No votes were taken on the public comments; council members acknowledged the input and asked staff to follow up where appropriate.
