Councilmembers discussed diversity, geographic distribution across Encinitas neighborhoods, and the commission’s role in fostering small-business vitality rather than attracting franchises.
Public commenters urged the commission to address parking and safety along Coast Highway 101 and endorsed several candidates. Council members praised the applicant pool and asked staff to recruit for a District 3 representative with attention to gender balance.
The appointments were made by motion and passed unanimously; staff will advertise the District 3 opening and return with an appointment at a future meeting.
