The Redondo Beach City Youth Commission voted to disband its strategic plan subcommittee after the panel completed and submitted a letter to the City Council, commissioners said.
Staff introduced the item and asked the commission to consider dissolving the strategic plan subcommittee because its assigned tasks were finished and the group had produced a formal letter. "That letter was incredibly well drafted, very thoughtful, very professional," said the Staff member who presented the update.
Commissioners moved and seconded the motion to dissolve the subcommittee; when the chair called for those in favor, commissioners responded affirmatively and the motion carried by voice vote. The chair then opened the agenda item for public comment; none was offered in person or online.
A commissioner who spoke for the strategic plan subcommittee summarized the group’s work as focused on youth input for the city’s strategic plan, noting priorities the letter raised: waterfront revitalization, e-bike safety and awareness, preparing for the Olympics and World Cup, and mental health services for youth. Staff said the City Council discussed the letter during its strategic plan meeting earlier in the week and that finalized strategic plan results are expected within approximately one month; any items directed to the youth commission will be returned to the commission for future consideration.
Next steps: the commission dissolved the standing subcommittee and staff will bring any council-directed items or requests for additional youth input back to the full commission for action or further discussion.
