The Facilities & Infrastructure Committee unanimously approved an amendment to the county budget to reflect the Ithaca‑Tompkins County Transportation Council’s 2026–27 Unified Planning Work Program (ID 13915), aligning county accounting with the council’s state fiscal year, the committee heard on March 19.
Tom (ITCTC director) said all ITCTC operating funds come from federal sources (FHWA/FTA) routed through NYSDOT and that the county’s role is to host the agency, not to provide operating funds. He highlighted priorities for the coming year: an online interactive GIS map of countywide transportation construction projects, a feasibility study for a Black Diamond Trail extension between Buttermouth Falls and Robert Treman State Park, a safe‑crossing study for West King Road to connect Ithaca College lands and Buttercup Falls State Park, small safety improvements in downtown Lansing and an east‑shore rail‑line legal analysis. The council also plans to hire a transportation planner to expand implementation capacity.
Committee members welcomed the projects and asked for follow‑up presentations on the work plan and budgeting details; the director said he would leave printed materials with legislators and can return for a future meeting.
