Clark County Joint Lobby to close March 9 for about 16 weeks; online services and drive‑thru payments offered

An agency official for Clark County said the county will close the Joint Lobby at the Clark County Public Service Center to the public beginning March 9 for an estimated 16-week remodel to improve staff safety and update technology.
The Joint Lobby houses the Assessor, Auditor and Treasurer on the second floor and operates as a one-stop customer service area. "We are the only county in the country that we know of that cross-train our staff," the agency official said, noting staff can handle activities such as recording documents and issuing marriage licenses. "It's very unique," the official added.
County officials said renovations respond in part to security concerns tied to frequent cash transactions and to outdated workstation design that does not support modern functionality. After 22 years of serving customers, officials gave an estimated reopening around the start of summer but characterized that as contingent on a roughly 16-week construction schedule.
During the closure the Assessor, Auditor and Treasurer encouraged customers to use online services, mail applications, documents or payments, or use the drop box on the first floor of the Public Service Center. Officials said the Assessor will increase mobile outreach for the senior exemption program to serve residents in their communities.
Customers applying for a marriage license were urged to apply online so county staff can mail the packet; completed packets may be returned via the foyer drop box. The county reminded property owners that first-half property taxes are due April 30 and said taxpayers can pay online by e-check at no charge, pay by credit card for a small vendor fee, or mail a check with the remittance envelope. If a receipt is desired, the county said customers should write "receipt" on the envelope so a mailed receipt will be returned.
To accommodate in-person payments just before the April 30 tax deadline, the county will operate a two-day drive-thru kiosk April 29–30 at the east garage entrance next to the Public Service Center on Franklin Street. The agency official said staff will accept payments from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.
For appointments or questions about services during the remodel, customers were directed to the county web page: www.clark.wa.gov/joint-lobby. The county said it will continue outreach and alternatives while the Joint Lobby is closed.
