Council presses staff on potholes and Comcast patching after winter damage

Council members used the March 23 work session to press staff for a more proactive approach to road repairs after winter damage and to seek accountability for utility patching done by Comcast.

Several council members described recurring failures of road patches, saying some areas patched last year have come undone and that broader cracking suggests some streets may need full repaving. One member asked whether the township relies on AI scans from municipal vehicles or proactively drives streets; a DPW representative said the township does not rely solely on AI and that crews go out daily to assess roads and respond to resident notifications.

On Kilmer Court, staff confirmed it is a township right of way and said the road is being considered for the upcoming paving project; signal work needed for the intersection was cited as a reason the paving was deferred until spring or early summer.

Council members also raised complaints that Comcast’s patching after its infrastructure work has come apart. The administration said inspectors will revisit the patch locations and, if patches are not in good condition, Comcast will be required to return and complete repairs under its bond obligations.

"If they are not in good condition, we're going to send Comcast back out to go address them," a municipal official said, adding the township will seek schedules for when remaining patching will be completed.

Council members pressed for schedules and clearer timelines for paving lists and asked staff to provide the council with the 2025/2026 paving schedule and planned work so members can monitor progress.

The council did not take formal action on specific road contracts during the work session but asked staff to follow up with details and timelines at upcoming meetings.
