Aing McGucken, the city’s Director of Health, told aldermen the grant application seeks $5 million (the amount included in the current application) toward an estimated $16 million project. The plan would renovate St Lucy’s Church into a multi‑service space hosting medical, dental and behavioral health services via contracted providers (including a federally qualified health center), plus community meeting space, a lactation room and a meditation area.
Officials said the $5 million would be used to ‘seal the envelope’—initial construction to make the building energy efficient—while the city continues to pursue additional funds to complete buildout of full services.
The motion to file the federal notice passed on voice vote. City staff will proceed with the application process; project timing depends on securing further funding.
