Boynton Beach advances design stage for water plants using SRF funding; task two estimated at $4.66 million

Dr. Kcott briefed commissioners on the water-treatment program: the city received an SRF principal-forgiveness grant of about $5.44 million and task one (condition assessment) used roughly $770,000. Staff recommended proceeding to task two — planning, alternative-water-source evaluation, permitting and intermediate design for the west water treatment plant — with a not-to-exceed figure discussed around $4.66 million to be paid from SRF loan funds and reimbursed to the city.
Dr. Kcott said the work will inform capacity decisions, what equipment can be reused, and the sequencing for east- and west-plant upgrades. "This is all still using the SRF loan funds to do some more studying as well as alternative water source planning and design and permitting," Dr. Kcott said, adding that the next commission actions will fund subsequent tasks to complete design work.
Why it matters: the SRF-funded study and design steps are prerequisites to construction and will shape long-term water capacity and compliance planning for the city. Commissioners were offered an option for a fuller presentation on April 7.
Next steps: staff will return with task-specific contracts and scope documents for commission action; funding is described as reimbursable through the SRF program and not taken from current CIP funds.
