Richland board reviews facility-use and personnel policy revisions; first readings approved for harassment and asset policies

Personnel and capital assets policies: The board approved first readings for policy 511 (sexual harassment of district staff prohibited) and policy 6801 (capital assets/inventory) after brief discussion. On policy 511, board members confirmed student-discipline language appears elsewhere (the student handbook) and asked the staff to verify cross-references. On policy 6801, members asked whether the district’s inventory systems are adequate to produce the report the policy mentions; staff said a process and procedures are under development and will be returned to the board with a proposed calendar and method for annual notification.
What the board asked staff to do: Board members asked staff to (1) move detailed enforcement steps, insurance minimums and damage-reimbursement rules into procedures that would accompany the policy, (2) clarify whether the policy should require the district to review external-group policies or instead require renters to certify compliance with state law and district rules, and (3) provide a timeline and method for asset-inventory reporting should the policy require the board be notified.
