Moriarty-Edgewood board approves two SRO contracts with local police departments

The Moriarty-Edgewood School District Board on July 15 approved annual school-resource-officer service agreements with two local police departments after Superintendent Bibiano presented the contracts as part of the district's safety and security strategic plan. The Edgewood Police Department contract carries a budgeted amount of $42,000 and the Mariardi Police Department contract carries $33,000; Bibiano said both agreements are the same as last year.

"The first one is a recommendation for a school resource officer service agreement for a budgeted amount of $42,000 for the Edgewood Police Department," Superintendent Bibiano told the board. He repeated that the Mariardi agreement is recommended at $33,000.

Both motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote during the meeting. No amendments or dissenting votes were recorded in the transcript. The board framed the agreements as routine annual service contracts that keep school safety staffing unchanged from the previous year.

The contracts were introduced during the superintendent's report and placed on the consent/business portion of the agenda; the board did not detail contract terms or supply signed copies in the meeting packet during the public portion of the session. The board also approved routine consent finance items and meeting minutes earlier in the meeting.

The district intends these service agreements to continue providing on-campus law-enforcement presence under the district's stated safety plan. The meeting moved on to other business, including policy reviews and personnel reports, before adjourning.
