District reports $440,000 insurance savings and plans to award under-budget $16 million JMI classroom-and-gym project

District finance staff told the Edison Township Board of Education that a recent market search for dental and stop-loss insurance produced lower pricing, yielding combined savings of about $440,000, and credited personnel who helped with the procurement.
In facilities news, the board was told that the long-delayed JMI classroom addition and gym project received a low bid that came in considerably under the previously anticipated cost. The administration said the award (about $16 million) will be placed on the upcoming meeting agenda for formal approval; members noted that the lower bid will free funds for other facilities work and reduce reliance on temporary trailers.
The administration also previewed numerous contract renewals and professional-services items, routine approvals for transportation renewals, grants acceptance and change orders for ongoing projects. A large transportation bid received the day of the meeting was under attorney review and will be added to the agenda so routes for next year can be finalized.
Board members thanked staff and outside consultants for the insurance savings; no formal contract awards were recorded in the public portion of the meeting. The board then adjourned into a confidential session to discuss personnel, litigation, student and contract matters.
