Bayonne Board of Education approves routine agenda items; student representative outlines fundraisers and Winterfest

The Bayonne Board of Education approved its meeting minutes and several routine superintendent and business-administration items and heard a report from the student representative about recent fundraisers and upcoming events.

Board President Desmond presided over roll call and the board voted to approve the minutes. The superintendent’s report, covering curriculum items A1–A5 and personnel items B1–B19, was approved by motion. Vice President Nagio was recorded as abstaining from item B11; Board President Desmond was recorded as abstaining from item B8 and from item B11. The business administrator’s report (items C1–C14) was approved by motion in roll call votes.

The student representative, speaking on behalf of student government, summarized recent and planned activities. "We raised over $200" at a fundraiser held Oct. 7, the representative said, and described a pep rally, color wars and tailgate on Oct. 17. The representative said Operation Shoe Box, run Nov. 12–17 in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse, asks students to fill shoeboxes with school supplies, toys and personal-care items for children in need. The student representative also announced Winterfest on Dec. 2, open to students and the community for a $5 admission; planned activities include a movie, a vendor fair and a taped-volunteer fundraiser to raise additional funds.

No ordinances, new policies or contracts were introduced during the meeting. A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved by roll call; the board then adjourned.
