Personnel Committee approves paralegal and bridge-operator positions, sets standard work day and adds executive session

At its April 1 meeting, the Allegany County Personnel Committee approved several staffing and administrative items presented by county officials.

The clerk of the board presented a memorandum requesting a resolution to establish a standard work day and days worked per month for Legislator LaForge; the committee moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.

For public safety staffing, Acting District Attorney Peter Degnan requested permission to create and fill one full-time paralegal position. The committee recorded the position's estimated annual salary at $51,000 with annual benefits estimated between $20,000 and $30,000 and approved the request by voice vote.

County Superintendent of Public Works Thomas Winders requested permission to create and fill one full-time bridge maintenance heavy motor equipment operator position. The committee heard that the position's estimated annual salary is between $46,000 and $56,000 and that annual benefits are estimated between $20,000 and $24,000. Winders told the committee the position is funded 100% with county funds and is included in the 2026 budget. The committee moved, seconded and approved the request.

Toward the end of the meeting the chair requested and the committee approved a motion to move into executive session for collective negotiations pursuant to Article 14 of the Civil Service Law; the chair stated there would be no business after the executive session.
