Haslet park board approves $24,150 fireworks show, OKs rentals for Independence Day

The Haslet Park Board voted March 18 to approve a $24,150 fireworks display for the city’s Independence Day celebration and authorized related event rentals for the July program.

Board member Cindy moved that the city “keep what we’ve got and just … jazz it up a little bit for the birthday” and restated a motion to spend $24,150 on the fireworks show; Kim Dillard seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote. Staff had presented vendor pricing tiers that ranged from a base $23,000 20-minute show to higher-priced packages topping roughly $32,250, and described the technical mix of shells (3-inch and 4-inch) and expected heights.

The board also approved a $4,718.43 contract with Inflatable Party Magic for a 50-foot obstacle course, a mobile rock-climbing wall, a four-station bungee trampoline and a trackless train, contingent on the vendor staffing each attraction. A motion to approve that contract, made and seconded during the meeting, passed unanimously. Separately, the board approved $1,893.85 for tents, fans, misting equipment, tables, chairs and globe lights for the July 4 event.

Staff and at least one vendor emphasized that all fireworks packages discussed were 20 minutes in duration and that the distinctions among prices reflected shell counts and the proportion of larger 4-inch shells, which produce higher bursts. The board discussed drone shows and other special effects but concluded those options were cost-prohibitive for this year.

The board directed staff to finalize contracts and confirm vendor staffing and safety plans. No roll-call vote counts were recorded in the meeting transcript; decisions were announced by voice as approved.
