Among academic updates, the district said it created a new middle‑school math pathway for the 2025–26 year with acceleration points and readiness indicators and approved Wit & Wisdom as the middle‑school English language arts curriculum with an implementation working group. District staff described ongoing MTSS implementation and evidence‑based reading interventions at the elementary level.
The district reported CDE special‑education determinations showed “significant improvement” in timely IEP and assessment completion, and the SELPA director told the board the district achieved 100% completion for special‑education requirements for the reporting period. The district also noted expanded Second Step SEL curriculum implementation TK–12 and student‑led anti‑hate/kindness activities originating with the student advisory council.
On post‑secondary and career pathways, staff said Dr. Toronto has secured almost $1 million in CTE pathway grants over the last two years and the district is expanding dual‑enrollment offerings (Calc II/III, computer science) with El Camino College and on‑campus teaching options. An early‑college program remains under consideration but was tabled for now because of transportation and funding constraints.
Facilities and IT work tied to Measure S was highlighted: staff said the community approved a $278 million bond last November; the district has sold $80 million in bonds so far and is completing $9 million in roofing improvements across nine campuses, LED retrofits and security camera upgrades. IT projects include migrating to cloud calling, replacing over 846 phones, piloting outdoor Wi‑Fi, access control pilots at select campuses, and a data‑center and cybersecurity upgrade.
District leadership said they will review detailed data at a board workshop scheduled for Friday and plan to return the updated strategic plan for readoption on Sept. 30.
The presentation was informational; no policy or budget vote was taken specific to strategic‑plan changes at this meeting.
