Board appoints Jeff Winkler as director of South Bay Adult School

The Redondo Beach Unified School District board announced the unanimous appointment of Jeff Winkler as director of the South Bay Adult School following closed‑session action. The board disclosed the personnel decision when it reconvened in open session, saying Winkler will succeed Dr. Suzanne Webb, who is retiring effective Oct. 1.
Winkler, a district administrator for 18 years, served as a coordinator in Educational Services beginning in 2007 and spent 14 years as principal at Lincoln and Jefferson elementary schools before leading the district’s professional learning work. The board’s announcement summarized his credentials, noting a degree in U.S. history from Chico State and a master’s in educational administration from Pepperdine University, and listed local awards and recent recognition as RBUSD Administrator of the Year in 2024.
Board President Elder said the appointment was approved by a unanimous vote in closed session. The board later approved Winkler’s appointment to represent the district on the South Bay Adult Education Consortium, a regional partnership of K–12 districts and community colleges that coordinates adult education services.
District staff said Winkler plans to build on the work of Dr. Webb by expanding career pathway opportunities, strengthening local partnerships, and continuing ESL, high‑school diploma and citizenship programs at South Bay Adult School. The appointment was announced at the meeting and the board did not set an additional public hearing for the personnel action.
The personnel action was first reported by the board at the start of open session and is reflected in the board’s consent and subsequent action items. The district will post any employment contract or related documents consistent with public‑record rules.
