The Poway Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on multiple personnel and consent items at its Nov. 6 meeting, including approving employment terms, advisory committee members and administrative appointments.
Close‑session report: Clerk Platsky reported that, during closed session, the board voted unanimously on settlement matters (items 2.1A and 2.1B) and authorized an appeal for item 2.1C. The board also announced that it had voted to appoint Melissa Griffith to the Associate Superintendent, Personnel Support Services position; the public record clarified that the employment agreement would be approved in open session as required by law.
Open‑session employment agreement: The board approved Melissa Griffith’s employment agreement effective Dec. 15, 2025, through June 30, 2029, with an annual salary of $236,200 (step 7), 26 vacation days, 12 illness days, longevity schedule, health and welfare benefits consistent with other certificated management employees, a $200,000 life‑insurance benefit, one professional‑organization membership, and reimbursement of necessary employment expenses. Trustees recorded a roll call and the vote was unanimous.
Other personnel actions: The board also approved the appointment of Bonnie Gonzalez as principal of Black Mountain Middle School (public‑session recognition), formally appointed Gail Olsen as the board’s representative to the personnel commission, and approved a slate of members to the Special Education Community Advisory Committee. The board adopted a resolution (No. 22‑2026) identifying three personnel commission exempt positions under the Education Code and approved a new job description for an Executive Director II of Human Resources (an internal realignment rather than an additional headcount). Consent calendar and several project and contract ratifications were approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: These approvals finalize senior personnel placements and administrative reorganization the board said are intended to support district operations, personnel oversight, and special‑education advisory functions.
What’s next: The district will implement the new HR job description, onboard the associate superintendent beginning Dec. 15, and continue regular reporting on personnel commission activity.
