Paramount Unified presents draft LCAP; district highlights 4,600+ survey responses and new student representatives

Paramount Unified officials presented the draft Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 2025–26 cycle at the June 11 board meeting and solicited board feedback on approaches to improve family engagement and close persistent achievement gaps.
Dr. Nelson and executive‑level staff reviewed the plan’s six goals: strengthening MTSS and college‑and‑career readiness; building comprehensive professional learning and instructional leadership; expanding social‑emotional and counseling services; enhancing family and community engagement; advancing equity and program access; and targeting supports for two schools under the state’s equity multiplier. The LCAP ties district actions to school plans and identifies monitoring metrics meant to measure progress beyond annual test scores.
Board members and staff discussed strategies for increasing meaningful, two‑way parent participation in LCAP planning. Dr. Nelson and staff said one avenue of engagement has produced more than 4,600 survey responses, but board members urged expanded outreach and more opportunities for parents to provide feedback in meetings and workshops. The board also announced selected student board representatives for 2025–26: Kayla Vargas (Odyssey STEM Academy) and Marco Rodriguez (Paramount High School).
Dr. Nelson said the presentation is a draft and that final LCAP adoption will return to the board after staff incorporate feedback and school‑level plans.
"We received over 4,600 responses" to LCAP surveys, Dr. Nelson said, noting staff are seeking more two‑way engagement opportunities. The board will consider final adoption later in the summer.
