Shannon Poole, project control specialist in the engineering department, said the council previously made a tentative award and that final award authority from the North Carolina Division of Water Infrastructure was received Feb. 19. Staff recommended approval of Resolution 2026-17 and authority for the town manager to execute the construction contract and associated documents.
Council moved and seconded the resolution; the motion carried by voice vote. One council member recused earlier in the agenda from this specific item because their employer was associated with an application related to the project, as noted on the record.
The project’s stated goals are to decommission an on-site pump station and replace its function with gravity sewer, which staff said will reduce operational risk and long-term maintenance costs for the town’s sewer system.
