Council approves technical rezoning for Powhatan Self Storage parcel

The Clayton Town Council voted March 16 to approve a town-initiated rezoning that consolidates split zoning on a 1.34-acre parcel used for a self-storage facility at Clayton Boulevard and Powhatan Road into Corridor Commercial zoning.
Planner Lori Bryant said the request, 2025-147-RZ, corrects split zoning that remained after previous approvals and does not permit new development beyond an earlier special-use permit. Bryant told council the rezoning is consistent with the town’s 2045 comprehensive growth plan and the planning board recommended approval at its February meeting.
Council moved, seconded and approved the technical rezoning by voice vote; no public commenters addressed the item at the hearing.
The change aligns the parcel’s zoning with existing commercial use and maintains the conditions of the prior special-use permit, town staff said.
