The Clayton Town Council on March 16 approved a conventional rezoning that assigns Residential Large Lot (RLL) zoning to roughly 476 acres annexed into town earlier this year, a step council and staff described as a procedural placeholder required by state statute.
Senior planner Robert Tate told council the parcel—comprised of the Kenny, Truaxler, Yergens and Tree of Life properties along Cornwallis Road and Veterans Parkway—was annexed effective Feb. 16 and the town had 60 days to establish zoning. Tate said staff recommended RLL to ensure zoning was in place, noting the site lacks a future land-use map designation in the 2045 comprehensive growth plan.
