District outlines construction progress, traffic-signal delay at TK center site

The Los Banos Unified School District's facilities manager updated the board on the TK/early-education center construction and warned that a pending city approval for a traffic signal could delay the project.
Sher Monday, the district's manager of facilities and special projects, said sewer and off-site storm work are complete and building pads B and C are finished, while pad D and low-voltage work remain in progress. She told the board the modular building manufacturer will ship components beginning March 17 and crews plan to crane them onto the site on March 26'27, but recent rain has set back some site work.
Monday described a built access road needed for low-bed trailers and said building A (the planned office building) has completed compaction testing. She also noted that the Los Banos Junior High blacktop will be used for staging with the principal's permission and that manufacturer crews will fence the staged material for safety.
"We're still waiting for the traffic signal to be approved from the city," Monday said, adding that the signal has a roughly six-month lead time after order and that the delay is "really impacting our schedule for our site contractor." She urged the board to monitor the approval to avoid additional slippage.
Monday also reported other facilities work: DSA approval for a Los Banos Junior High kitchen hood fire-suppression system (to be completed over spring break), a greenhouse/classroom at PHS cleared by DSA with bidding to start, and an LED lighting project beginning during spring break.
Board members pressed Monday for clarification about recent maintenance work at PCO High School; she said she was not aware of on-site activity and would check with the maintenance department.
The board did not take further action on the facilities report. The district will return to the board with updates as approvals, shipments and weather allow.
