Board renews contracts for nonpublic placements, afterschool supports and pilots SLPA model

At the regular meeting trustees approved several student-services and community-based organization (CBO) contracts and a pilot intended to expand special-education supports.
Student services staff presented four items including a new nonpublic placement at Morgan Autism Center, contract help to fill six PAR educator vacancies through Row Health, and a pilot to employ a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) model overseen by a licensed pathologist to increase capacity. The presenter said the SLPA model would allow the district to serve more students while the supervising therapist handles paperwork and IEP oversight.
The board also approved renewals for afterschool intervention contracts: a YMCA of Silicon Valley agreement not to exceed $149,98.32 to provide two staff members at several sites, and a Youth Alliance agreement not to exceed $189,976.50 to serve other elementary sites. A trustee asked that the district present outcome data tying expenditures to student progress; staff said they already collect attendance and lesson counts and will provide end-of-year measures tying CBO work to student gains.
All items in the student services and consent bundles were approved in voice votes as presented.
