Chris Anderson of EA Engineering presented the near‑final Story County Government Climate Resilience and Sustainability Plan at the March 17 Board meeting, describing a two‑part deliverable: an accessible visual report for the public and a technical companion with methods, references and greenhouse‑gas calculation tools.
"We will provide the following deliverables: one is a very visual and layman's terms comprehensible report, and the second is a very technical report that will include our references to scientific material," Anderson said. He told supervisors the package also includes greenhouse‑gas calculation tools and communication templates for a coordinated public rollout.
Anderson said the plan addresses five contracted tasks: a greenhouse‑gas footprint through 2050, the county's committed climate actions, additional reduction strategies, assessment of climate risks, and resilience recommendations. The consultant said action recommendations will include cost estimates and payback information and that timelines will be detailed through 2030, with higher‑level increments beyond that date.
The report will go to the county's Go Green team for internal review on March 20; Anderson said the team review will allow staff comments to be incorporated before the consultant presents to the Board and supports a public launch. "We're hoping for the end of April," he said.
Board members asked whether recommended actions would include cost and savings figures and how timelines would be presented; Anderson confirmed both would be provided in the technical materials.
Next steps: county staff and the Go Green team will review the visual and technical reports; after internal revisions the consultant will present to the Board and support a public launch.
