Residents urge Freeport to reinstate cancelled Zumba classes at recreation center

Esmeralda Castillo, another participant, described health improvements since she began attending Zumba: "My doctor's very happy with my health since I started Zumba," she told council, urging reinstatement because the program helps participants manage health issues and stress.
Council members asked staff to follow up; Councilman Pia Ward Day explicitly asked staff to investigate why classes were discontinued and how quickly they could resume. Dr. Kelly said staff would look into the matter and report back.
Next steps: staff will investigate the recreation-center cancellations, confirm whether refunds or pro-rated credits are owed to members, and report findings to council. Council requested clearer advance notice to class participants in future service changes.
