Harrison County Commission approves small event allocations and several grant applications

The Harrison County Commission on April 1 approved multiple funding requests and grant applications spanning community events, corrections programming and parks services.
Event funding: The commission approved a $1,500 allocation to the Clarksburg History Museum to support the Liberty Market (vendors, military vehicles, VFW honor guard and other activities). The board also approved a $3,000 allocation to the Town of West Milford to help fund its Float the Fork/Old Mill Festival set for May 29–30.
Grants and in‑kind awards: The commission authorized staff to file a FY2026 application for the West Virginia Community Corrections Fund to support four counseling positions; approved an application for the West Virginia Justice Reinvestment Initiative Treatment Supervision Grant (to fund two community engagement specialists and one peer recovery coach); and approved an in‑kind Petco Health & Wellness award of vaccines valued at nearly $10,000 for Harrison County Animal Control (not a cash award). The board also authorized applications for Parks & Recreation: a Walmart "Spark Good Local" grant (up to $5,000) for movie nights and a Kroger Foundation grant (up to $3,000) for a rotating half‑day day camp for children ages 6–12.
Training and administrative approvals: The commission approved travel for two 911 employees to attend suicide caller training on May 4–5 and received administrative notices including publication of the county budget and submission of a single audit required after receiving more than $750,000 in grant funds.
All listed funding requests and grant applications were approved by voice vote during the meeting; several awards are applications or in‑kind offers and will require subsequent acceptance/implementation steps if awarded or accepted.
