County finance staff says phone system migration will continue; stopping now would cost $70,000

Finance staff updated the Meigs County Finance Committee that the county is migrating building and departmental phone lines to a Charter-hosted system. Staff said planning and zoning, veterans services, the sheriff's department and the jail have switched, and the ambulance/EOC and health department are in process.
Staff said an earlier contract transition left the county with limited vendor choices and that attempting to stop the current install now would still leave the county responsible for roughly $70,000 in costs. For those reasons, staff recommended continuing with the Charter installations and finishing the remaining lines.
Committee members asked questions; staff said the county does not pay the health department's monthly phone bill but will standardize equipment and lines across county facilities. The update was informational and no formal vote was taken.
