SACRAMENTO — CalPERS’ Pension & Health Benefits Committee reviewed health plan items at its March meeting and heard public comment about problems related to the system’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) transition.
The committee’s report noted an update on health open enrollment results, the PBM transition to CVS, long-term care market research, and retiree cost-of-living adjustment considerations. Public commenters said they experienced difficulties with the PBM transition and with access to behavioral health services during the changeover.
"The committee received public comment regarding difficulties with the transition to CVS PBM and receiving behavioral health care," the committee summary said. The chair directed staff to provide grievance and appeals numbers related to the PBM to the board so members could better understand the scope and nature of complaints.
The committee also indicated it will meet in closed session at its May meeting to discuss health-plan rate renewal negotiation strategy; the next pension and health benefits committee meeting was scheduled for May 18, 2026 in Sacramento.
