Everett School Committee approves $380,200 in grants and moves $1.47 million payroll

Superintendent Hart asked the committee to accept a $160,000 planning grant from the Bar Foundation to help the district co-design “a unified instructional vision” for Everett High School and the district's alternative high school. The motion to accept the grant was made and seconded; the roll-call vote recorded eight yeses and the motion carried.
The committee also approved several state grants. Members voted to accept a $35,000 career-connected learning program development grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to support a state-designated pathway that includes work-based learning, and a $182,000 PRISM 3 continuation grant to support curriculum coherence and instructional improvements for grades four and five. In addition, the committee approved a $3,700 State Treasurer financial-education grant to fund an EHS "credit for life" fair run by the high school math department and a $500 Everett Cultural Council award to bring a local historian to lead a U.S. history workshop.
All grant acceptances were approved by roll call with unanimous “yes” votes from the eight members present.
Separately, the committee accepted the finance and negotiation subcommittee report and approved the bills and payroll packet dated Feb. 24 for $1,472,537.94 by roll call. The superintendent and finance staff did not raise objections; the vote passed with all members voting in favor.
What happens next: For the Bar Foundation planning grant, the superintendent said the funds will support planning meetings and design work; the district will send the customary letter of thanks. For state and local grants, staff will proceed with the program planning and report back to the committee with implementation details as required.
