The board voted unanimously to approve consent items that included equipment‑rental contracts (C‑25‑0190, C‑25‑0191), an unclaimed‑property auction contract (C‑22‑0162), a jail education contract renewal with Nebraska Wesleyan University (C‑24‑0840), painting services (C‑25‑0183) and amendments for fencing services (C‑23‑0106, C‑23‑0105, C‑23‑0107).
Under new business the board approved a one‑time $500 cash award to Sergeant Chad Miller of the Department of Corrections for his supervisory work overseeing building cleaners, PSW staff and kitchen operations.
The board adopted a resolution directing the county engineer and planning staff to study a petition to vacate a portion of public right‑of‑way on South 58th Street and Kest Drive; county engineering staff said the road segment was platted in 1978 and the petition came via public petition and lies within the city’s one‑mile jurisdiction.
Pam Dingman, Lancaster County Engineer, told commissioners the board also approved installing traffic signs that change load‑rating specifications for county bridges D080, E156 and T171 to comply with Nebraska Department of Transportation requirements. "It's never good when we're adding to that list because I'd really rather be taking away from that list," Dingman said, describing the measures as required safety steps.
The board approved additional traffic signage in Malcolm (Northwest 105th Street and West McKelby Road) to warn drivers about reduced‑speed connections and authorized a contract with Shauny Mission Tree Service for right‑of‑way pruning not to exceed $15,000.
In personnel and policy actions, the board approved a $300 training agreement to bring in a domestic‑violence trainer for Community Corrections staff and adopted a revisions to the county’s retirement leave policy (2026‑01) clarifying employee FMLA eligibility while using vacation after their last day and allowing limited leave use between retirement announcement and last day.
Most votes were carried by unanimous roll call. The meeting proceeded to executive session for strategy on real‑estate transactions, union negotiations and pending litigation and returned to open session the same day.
