Lee County seeks $11.1 million for proposed highway facility; names new EMA director

County administrator Jeremy updated the board on two grant applications tied to a proposed new highway facility: a $7.1 million U.S. Department of Transportation BUILD grant and a $4 million community project funding request submitted through Congressman Lehood’s office.
"We submitted a grant application with a request of $7.1 million," Jeremy said, and noted the county also requested $4 million in community project funding. He described both as hopeful efforts and cautioned that grant rounds are competitive.
Jeremy also announced the appointment of a new Emergency Management Agency director, Seth Jansen, effective March 9. He said Jansen brings prior EMA experience from Whiteside County and that the county looks forward to a smooth transition with continued collaboration between outgoing and incoming staff.
No final decisions on facility siting or grant outcomes were recorded; Jeremy said staff will continue pursuing funding and provide updates as outcomes are known.
