Lee County honors Zoning Board of Appeals after more than 60 years of service

Lee County honored members of its Zoning Board of Appeals, which held its first meeting in April 1961 and final meeting on Aug. 22, 2025, presenting plaques and praising the board’s role in shaping local development from industrial projects to recent renewable-energy reviews.
The Lee County Board presented plaques and public thanks to members of the county’s Zoning Board of Appeals, recognizing more than six decades of service dating to the board’s first meeting in April 1961 and its final meeting on Aug. 22, 2025.
The Chair noted the board’s long record, citing decisions that shaped local landmarks and projects, from manufacturing and food processing facilities to wind and solar farm reviews. ‘‘They served as a steady, thoughtful, and essential part of Lee County government,’’ the Chair said, thanking members in attendance and inviting them forward to accept commemorations.
Long-serving member Mr. Forester recalled being nominated at 25 and described the board’s institutional memory. ‘‘I have a lot of history of what’s gone on in Lee County,’’ he said, adding that the job presented difficult decisions over the years but was an honor to hold.
Alice, who helped present the plaques, noted the board’s role in early hearings and in guiding local growth and said the plaques will be displayed in the old courthouse as a reminder of the board’s contributions.
The board paused briefly for photographs and remarks before moving on to the regular agenda.
