Morrow County commissioners approved a grant application to the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Wolf Depredation Compensation and Financial Assistance program. Grants staff said the county based its request on statutory multipliers—five-times for calves/yearlings and three-times for adult cows—plus prevention measures and administrative reimbursement, producing an application total of $532,300.
Staff told the board the request reflects documented livestock losses and prevention needs; they cautioned that final awards are typically smaller than applications and that the county routinely applies for the maximum recommended amount to demonstrate need.
Commissioners voted to submit the application and authorized staff to proceed with required paperwork. Staff said the county’s prior proactive approach to wolf compensation has improved its success rate on similar grants.
