Hearing for 27 Perry Drive continued as commission seeks grading and permeable-paver details

The Needham Conservation Commission continued the public hearing for 27 Perry Drive to April 9, 2026 after the applicant’s consultant, Curtis Weisggerber (Goddard Consulting), presented proposed site changes that include driveway expansion, retaining walls, new patios and deck expansions and several tree removals.
Curtis described the proposed plan and noted the arborist recommended removing an additional tree because of decay and structural concerns. He said proposed mitigation includes three northern red oaks, four paper birches and approximately 28 native shrubs along with a native wildflower meadow at the base of a new retaining wall. Curtis also said permeable pavers will be used in the patio footprint.
Commissioners requested additional technical details before making a decision: a grading plan with elevations and maximum wall heights (to confirm whether an engineer’s sign-off is required for any wall over four feet), specification for permeable-paver maintenance (to be included in the order of conditions), and discussion with the arborist about whether certain dead trees could be left as wildlife snags to increase habitat value. Given those outstanding items, the commission voted to continue the hearing to April 9.
Curtis agreed to provide the requested grading and maintenance details.
