Anthony Pryin, acting crops branch chief for the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), said the agency’s 2025 end‑of‑season sugarcane estimates place harvested area at an estimated 946,000 acres, down roughly 3,000 acres from last month’s forecast but up about 2.8% from the previous season. Pryin said the average yield for 2025 is estimated at 36.4 tons per acre, a decline of 3.7% from the prior forecast, producing a total of 34.4 million tons.
Pryin emphasized that the month‑to‑month reduction in the production estimate (down about 4% from the prior forecast) reflects updated field and processor reports and that the total still represents the highest U.S. sugarcane production since 2022. He noted a marked divergence between states: Louisiana recorded a record‑high production total for the season, while Florida’s average yield was the lowest observed since 2018.
NASS also reported higher domestic deliveries and continued imports; Pryin said imports remain strong year‑to‑date and that some high‑tier refined imports and raw sugar receipts raised reported import tonnages for the balance‑of‑year projections. Taking production, imports and domestic use into account, NASS trimmed ending stocks by about 62,000 short tons and reported a stocks‑to‑use ratio of roughly 15.2%.
Pryin reminded listeners that the briefing is intended to match the official published estimates and that any discrepancy should be resolved by consulting the official NASS publications.
